We tend to think that the person we are today is the person we will always be. But the truth is, we are always changing. Our future self is always in the making.
Our personality, skills, likes, and dislikes change over time — whether we’re intentional about that change or not. A recently published study that spanned more than 60 years found that the personalities of nearly all participants were completely different than they had been 60 years prior.
Change is inevitable, but it’s not out of your control. The exciting thing is we can determine who we become in the future.
There’s an excellent article by Benjamin Hardy in the Harvard Business Review which details how to shape your future self. Here’s a short synopsis of the article as well as the link to it below: Here are his three strategies to help you become your desired future self.
1. Distinguish Your Former, Current, and Future Selves
2. Imagine Your Desired Future Self
3. Change Your Identity Narrative
Hardy’s article gives you a practical approach to shaping your future self at any age.
Take control of these changes. Your future self will be much more exciting.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
―Albert Einstein
