Better than Hugging

Why does hugging feel so good? It’s probably because human touch in its many forms has been shown to be a powerful booster for our health and wellbeing.

Touch stimulates the vagus nerve, which has branches running through our entire body. This stimulation helps boost the immune system and release various enzymes and hormones like oxytocin and acetylcholine. The result is a reduction in inflammation, fewer tension headaches and reduced allergic reactions, and a general improvement in overall health.

Hugging is a very beneficial form of touch, and highly recommended to do often.
While Victoria and I hug often throughout the day, we’ve found that we can get a huge boost in hugging benefits by cuddling …specifically in the spoon position. This is a sleeping position, but it can’t be sustained all night. So we cuddle when we go to bed and do the spooning first thing in the morning …for about an hour. This makes for an uplifting and loving way to start the day.
If you have a sleep partner, try some spooning. It’s the easiest and best feeling way to better health. I’d love to know your experience with spooning.
